REINTERPRET:

respond to a peer's show-and-tell object in a creative manner:

- Reflect on your peer's object and presentation.
- What are some points of interest for you formally, thematically?
- Did the object's presenter say anything that intrigued you or inspired deeper thinking on your part?
- What are some subjects that are important in your practice and life right now? How might they intersect with this object or the conversation we had about the object?
- What are some techniques you might like to add into your repertoire this term?
- How might you represent some thoughts you have on the object and its significance?

Create a short response to the object you have chosen/were assigned. This could be a drawing, poem, sound, photograph, video, found object, something different entirely but that you connect somehow to the previous student’s show and tell. Work freely / do not spend too much time.

RULES/CONSTRAINTS:

The only rule is to use a technique or medium with which you are unfamiliar/unexperienced.

OBJECTIVES:

This exercise will help us find the various ways in which our work exists as part of a wider community, how our work can “connect to the field” all the while taking responsibility for not only your own learning but also supporting your peers’ development. Once done, you will have time the following week to share it with that student/the class.
OBJECT RESPONSE
some inspiration if you're feeling stuck:
The book "Conversations - Language and Propaganda" which I was invited to participate in is part of the inspiration for this project. Each artist was paired with another and we created creative responses to each others' work. This form of exchange or exquisite corpse has a long history with artists and writers. The artists involved in this project were Sonny Assu, Jerome Baco, Annie Briard, Colin Browne, Marie-Pier Malouin, Sara Snow, Laurent Sagalovitsch and Michele Smolkin.
The project Significant Objects shows the power of storytelling - found objects were responded to by writers and saw their commercial value increase dramatically.
